Spiderman It just made its PC gaming debut, with the beloved PlayStation 4 title now available to even more gamers, but unfortunately the dark side of the internet has overshadowed its release.
One of the many things famous about Spider-Man was its open world, packed with fancy Easter eggs and heartwarming details. Among them are various rainbow pride flags scattered throughout the game, adorning the city hall buildings. Spider-Man: Miles Morales it also features many more, plus a few more pride flags.
But because of the way the internet works, a mod was uploaded overnight that replaces all the rainbow flags with the American flag. Titled “Non-Newtonian New York,” the mod instantly caused an outbreak on Nexus Mods. The mod’s cover image essentially implies that there are too many rainbows and pride in the game.
It was uploaded to Nexus Mods on August 15 and has already had 288 downloads in less than 24 hours. It has become a hot topic, as the comments section for the mod is riddled with homophobic, “based and redpilted” comments, along with people actively criticizing the mod for being thinly veiled homophobic and fear of queerness. .
Spider-Man as a character is the exact opposite of what this mod represents, and even in Insomniac’s two Spider-Man games he has had lines calling out conservative villains, hate groups, and defended each New Yorker.
Insomniac prides itself on inclusion and has not been silent in its support of human rights, with the company previously celebrating Black History Month alongside Pride Month. It is disappointing that a mod like this is created and celebrated, when the very inclusion of the flag is to show that it is a safe space.
we got this covered has reached out to Nexus Mods and Insomniac Games for comment.
