It’s been years since Arrowhead Game Studio’s shoot-em-up Helldivers first landed, and fans have been crying out for a follow-up ever since. If a recent tease from the studio is any indication, a sequel to Helldivers is much more likely than people might have believed.
In a TikTok posted to the studio’s Twitter account this morning, its social media manager is seen innocently starting his workday before being bombarded by fan demands for a Helldivers sequel. The most interesting thing is that, just before you open your browser, you can see a folder right above it, titled “SECRET ARROWHEAD GAME PROJECT”, which not only confirms that you are working on something new, but heavily implies that the project is a sequel to the studio’s beloved game. .
To make things more interesting, a Helldivers sequel was included in the now infamous and repeatedly correct NVIDIA GeForce leak. This year alone, major sequels like Kingdom Hearts IV and Dragon’s Dogma 2, which were featured in the leak, were confirmed to be in development, lending a lot of weight to Arrowhead’s trailer.
Helldivers enjoyed a warm reception when it launched on PlayStation and PC systems in 2015, establishing a passionate fan base in love with its hardcore tendencies, including no difficulty settings and friendly fire that couldn’t be put out. In GameSpot’s Helldivers review, we called it “a hugely entertaining space game, despite some battle scars. It’s really a game designed for precious cooler moments, when you can tell stories of barely won fights and anecdotes detailing the white knuckles.” flights of insatiable hordes”.
