The war movie has proven to be one of the most popular genres on Netflix, whether we’re talking about action-packed epics or heart-wrenching dramas, but none of them are as strange as Operation hashthat weaves a story so fantastic you’d hardly believe it’s true.
Set in 1943, veteran filmmaker John Madden’s latest film tells the incredible story of how the British conspired to fool the Nazis into believing an invasion of Greece was imminent by planting false documents on a corpse and causing it to arrive in land in a place where it will easily be discovered by the enemy.
Given the levels of subterfuge on display, it’s all the more remarkable that future James Bond creator Ian Fleming was one of the key players in the scheme, but that barely scratches the surface of the left field ingenuity on display. For a film required to juggle so many disparate genres at the same time, it’s an impressive feat that Operation hash manages to pull it off.
In addition to earning an impressive 85 percent Rotten Tomatoes score, the dramatic wartime thriller with elements of comedy and romance has also been sweeping Netflix charts. According to FlixPatrol, Operation hash it is currently the 10th most viewed title on the platform after being sent straight to international streaming, and even managed to secure second place in the United States.
A gripping old-fashioned adventure featuring a talented cast in top form, it’s no wonder Netflix subscribers have been instantly captivated by the narrative.
