Adam Sandler offers a thoughtful response to people who don’t like his movies.

Adam SandlerThe Sandman himself (sorry, Tom Sturridge!) is perhaps one of the most colorful and divisive figures in entertainment, mostly for good reasons turned bad. The 56-year-old comedian and actor is best known for two things; a tendency to include his friends and family in movies (think Kevin James, Rob Schneider, and David Spade, among others), and his iconic, if sometimes irritating, portrayal of a specific type of character.

In fact, when you think of an Adam Sandler movie, you’d be forgiven for thinking that it was merely Sandler’s side project while he and his friends were on vacation (watching you, Adults). However, there’s no denying that she’s found something of a resurgence lately, having starred in the critically acclaimed film A24. uncut gems in 2019, before starring in and producing the well-received sports drama Hustle at the beginning of this year.

But the past two years haven’t just been an uptick in Sandler’s creative life. The actor has been reviewing himself on very personal levels, which he revealed has helped change his outlook on life to one that is much healthier for him.

In an interview with AARP, Sandler talked about how he turns to advice his father once gave him whenever he’s faced with massive amounts of hate for his movies. The most important reminder that not everyone is going to like you.

I always remember something my father used to say. He was a tough bastard. He went through ups and downs in his life, like not having a job for a year or two and not telling us anything. I remember once something didn’t go right for me. I bombed myself on stage or didn’t get an audition. He was upset and probably embarrassed. And he said, ‘Adam, you can’t always be happy. People aren’t always going to like you. You are going to fail.

Sandler’s next appearance will be on Netflix murder mystery 2, a comedy-mystery film that will reunite Sandler and Jennifer Aniston in their lead roles from the film’s prequel. The film is currently in post-production, but there is no release date available at this time.
