AMC boss Dan McDermott has big plans for an upcoming planned universe based on vampire writer Anne Rice’s novels, with plans to make it the next most popular franchise to date. Harry Potter either Spiderman.
Mcdermott called it “the biggest company we’ve ever embarked on from scratch,” according to Variety. The first show, intended to act as an introduction to and cornerstone of the universe, will be a television adaptation of Rice’s 1976 novel. Interview with The Vampire.
AMC has high hopes that the show will take off and allow for a follow-up series. The deal AMC has with Rice involves content from 18 of his books and closed in May 2020.
“I imagine we have five to seven series in the next five or six years, each with four or six seasons, with major lead characters featuring major stars that are going to get our universe up and on its feet for the next five. years. to 10 years,” she said.

“You have to develop secondary characters under those major clues that they can, and this is a discovery process, some of these are in the books, some of these could be new characters, some of these could be characters that you have a little bit of a paper. and the books, but they would be created to have an oversized impact on a series, but ultimately, after two or three seasons, or four seasons, they would spin off and become the lead in their own series. And then you really start to have fun, because then you can start pulling characters from different shows.”
He also said that he understands the challenges of taking such big changes when it comes to AMC trying to compete with other networks.
“We are not competing with any of those other streamers. We are complementary with them. Our value proposition is that we aspire to be the best platform in the world for delivering premium adult content. That’s the only lane we swim in. We don’t make children. We don’t do animation, sports, news, all that kind of stuff. We just want to live in the world of premium adult marquee content.”
with the ATM Living Dead coming to an end, it makes sense that AMC would want to get another big franchise. He said niche programming is becoming something AMC is known for, with shows that are “not broad, but incredibly deep.”
