An animated revival of the 1980s/90s Fox sitcom Married… with Children with the original cast is reportedly in development and actively being released to networks and streaming services. Citing anonymous sources, Deadline was the first to report.
Family Guy executive producer Alex Carter is reportedly in charge of writing and hosting, with Fox, Hulu and Peacock currently considered the favorite destinations. Hulu and Peacock currently stream the original series. Sony Pictures Television, which owns and distributes the original series, has been working on the animated project for more than a year and landed directors Katey Sagal (The Conners), Ed O’Neill (Modern Family), Christina Applegate (Dead to Me), and David Faustino (Dragons: Race to the Edge) on board before buying it.
Married… with Children began in 1987 and ran for 11 seasons. Created by Michael G. Moye and Ron Leavitt, the intentionally low-key show follows a dysfunctional Chicago family.
Sagal recently signed on to star in another Fox-originated revival coming to Hulu in 2023. In February of this year, it was announced that almost the entire cast and creative team behind Futurama would be returning for a revival: Sagal, Billy West, Tress MacNeille , Maurice LaMarche, Lauren Tom, Phil LaMarr and David Herman were all confirmed when it was originally announced. In March, John DiMaggio, the only holdout, closed a deal to reprise his signature role as the voice of Bender.
Other recent revivals in the works include Justified: City Primeval, Jackass, and The Office. Today, Amazon Prime Video kicks off a new season of The Kids in the Hall.
