Including Spidersaurs, Towaga and various Daylife
With the way deals are often shaken up, it’s only natural for games to ebb and flow from subscription services like Xbox Game Pass and PlayStation Plus Extra, but I haven’t necessarily associated that ebb and flow with Apple Arcade. At least not yet. Granted, I don’t keep up with the service that much these days beyond the occasional headline, but it’s a bit of a surprise to hear 15 games leaving Apple Arcade.
As reported by TouchArcade and The Verge, the timeline is confusing at best.
A new section on Apple Arcade lists the following games going “soon”:
- Atone: Heart of the Elder Tree
- BattleSky Brigade: Harpooner
- card apocalypse
- Final work
- Do not bother me!
- nautical dread
- slide of life
- over the alps
- Projection: First Light
- Towaga: In the Shadows
- Various daytime life
Do you recognize any of them? You could if you were there from the beginning.
I know some of the ones that come to mind, especially spidersaursa run-and-gun game from WayForward that is now on other platforms like the Nintendo Switch, and Various daytime life, a strange role-playing game from Square Enix. Many, but not all, have been ported elsewhere.
Another day, another exclusion
We’ve been conditioned to expect that movies, shows, and games won’t stick around indefinitely when they’re bundled into ever-changing and increasingly competitive libraries. Adequate notice with removal dates is half the battle.
I just hope that in the case of Apple Arcade, players don’t have bad luck when it comes to their game data; the service is in a single place with no in-app purchases or ads. It would be a shame to invest time and energy into an Apple Arcade title only to have it fall off the list with no other way to pick up the pieces. Games can be so fleeting these days.
