News hardware Apple: the iPhone SE 4 could be inspired by a forgotten high-end smartphone

Historically, the iPhone SE is a small model of Apple smartphone. The last two iterations of the terminal, released in 2020 for the 2nd generation model and in 2022 for the 3rd generation, both havea 4.7-inch Retina display. This is a legacy of the very first iPhone SE, released in 2016. At the time, smartphones under 5 inches were still standard, which is no longer the case today.

The small screen of the new versions of the iPhone SE has largely contributed to their success, in addition to their more attractive price than that of the high-end iPhones. However, according to analyst Ross Young, Apple is now said to have other plans for the 4th generation iPhone SE.

An iPhone SE 4 very close to Apple’s iPhone XR

According to the American analyst, specialized in screens, Apple is reportedly considering giving the 4th generation iPhone SE a 6.1-inch Retina display (LCD). Finished, therefore, the small iPhone that fits in the palm of the hand, and hello a device of the same size as the iPhone 14.

More precisely, Apple would have plans to offer an iPhone SE 4 strongly inspired by the iPhone XR, another of its high-end terminals released in 2018. This would materialize in particular by a punch for the selfie camera, integrated into the LCD screen of the device. However, it is not certain, at present, that Apple is integrating a True Depth camera that would allow Face ID to be used with this new iPhone SE.

iPhone SE (2024): the preferred Touch ID track

According to fellow Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the Cupertino company would rather favor the track of the Touch ID sensor embedded in the ignition button of the device. Apple’s objective would be, above all, to lower the costs production of the 4th generation iPhone SE.

Because despite screen diagonal changes and other technical points, the American manufacturer still considers the SE range to be the most affordable in its catalog. Therefore, some savings are bound to be in order. We can expect a “modern” version, but not too much, of the iPhone XR released in 2018, with similar characteristics, but a newer chipamong other things.

Where the rub is that Apple is planning to release the 4th generation iPhone SE in 2024, 6 years after the release of the iPhone XR. For comparison, the 2nd generation iPhone SE was released 4 years after the first iPhone SE, which was already a relatively long wait. So, we can ask ourselves the question: are the rumors founded?
