Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 players are convinced that Dead Silence is inadvertently revealing their position to enemies.
Over the past weekend, the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 beta has been underway, opening up to players on all platforms. Now, a new emerging consensus within the gaming community appears to be that Dead Silence is revealing player positions rather than hiding them, as you can familiarize yourself with in the Simpsons of All Time clip below.
The cause of the frustration seems to be the activation of the Dead Silence Perk, rather than what the Perk actually does. Players apparently think that the ‘ping’ sound that Dead Silence Perk makes when activated is enough to pinpoint their position, giving enemy soldiers a fall on them when they are actually trying to hide the sound of their footprints.
However, that’s not to say that steps aren’t a problem in and of themselves in Modern Warfare 2. The game’s community has decreed that steps can genuinely identify a player’s position in an entire building, allowing others to align a kill shot at him as soon as they walk through a door or turn a corner.
In fact, developer Infinity Ward made adjustments to footstep sounds last week in a new update. The developer reduced the distance at which you could hear footsteps, but made enemy footsteps more distinct from allied footsteps, which seems to be where the problem with footstep audio came from.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is still a while away from launch, which won’t arrive until next month on October 28. We hope that it will be enough time for Infinity Ward to recover from the game community.
