The Call of Duty: Warzone Verdansk map was removed from the battle royale in 2021, but now, ahead of the releases of Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2, players are campaigning for its return through a petition that has attracted thousands of firms.
December 8, 2021 was the last time Warzone players were able to battle in Verdansk, with the Eastern European-inspired map, styled similarly to PUBG’s Erangel, being replaced by Caldera, which was recently updated as part of Warzone season 4. Caldera has frustrated some Call of Duty fans due to the fact that he is based on the 2021 Vanguard and comes with WWII era weapons instead of modern ones. However, as we get closer to the Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer beta and await more details on Warzone 2’s release date, some of the CoD community has campaigned for Verdansk’s reintroduction, creating the hashtag #BringBackVerdansk and even finding support in the American music producer. and Fortnite contributor Marshmello.
And now, an online petition is gaining traction, attracting as of this writing, the signatures of over 14,000 Call of Duty players, who want to see Verdansk return.
“We, the players and the community, want options and not [sic] being forced to play a particular map or mode,” reads a statement accompanying the petition on Change.org. “A lot of us love Modern Warfare and we love playing with today’s weapons. We are a great group that hates the weapons of World War II. We’re not asking you to destroy Caldera. We are simply asking you to give us options. Give us back Verdansk and modern weapons. Many of us consider quitting and waiting [sic] for MW2 to launch in 2022. We don’t want that. Dear Blizzard Activision [sic]Please respect and appreciate the great support you receive from us. Listen to our wishes and don’t force us to play a game we don’t enjoy.”
Whether Verdansk will make one last appearance in the farewell tour before the end of Warzone remains to be seen, or perhaps return in Warzone 2, but it’s clear that a dedicated section of the CoD fanbase is eager to get him back. However, as Warzone wraps up, we’re excited about the release date for Modern Warfare 2 and the new DMZ mode, which was recently leaked courtesy of NFL players.
