Change the past to avoid a terrible fate in ‘The Wreck’

In 2019, we gave Bury Me, My Love a strong thumbs up in our Nindie roundup. This The Pixel Hunt text game tells the story of a Syrian refugee trying to cross the war-torn country and reach her husband and a new life in Germany safely. Three years later, the studio is back to tug at our heartstrings again with The Wreck, out this fall.

The Wreck steps away from a physical war zone and into the battlefield of a mind on the brink of collapse. Focusing on an unfocused car ride that results in an accident, you’ll travel back through Junon’s mind as you uncover the path that led her to shock and make decisions in an attempt to influence the future.

You can watch the short trailer above to get an idea of the game, and for a more detailed look at what it has to offer, check out the following Pixel Hunt info:

The Wreck is a mature 3D visual novel about sisterhood, motherhood, grief, and survival. Players follow failed screenwriter Junon as she tries to get through the most pivotal day of her life, navigating difficult conversations and piecing together where things went wrong. With her mother in critical condition and her mind on the brink of collapse, Junon must relive the past, alter the present and embrace the future, or her story will end in disaster.

Explore Junon’s scattered thoughts through interactive text and dialogue
Meet a small cast of complex and nuanced characters
Build a non-linear narrative that explores themes of trauma and recovery
· Experience the powerful story of the creators of Bury me, my love

With a past containing troubled family relationships, terminal illnesses and failed career ambitions, The Wreck is not for the faint-hearted and we recommend having your tissues ready. The Pixel Hunt echoes our suggestion, calling The Wreck perfect for “people who like handhelds, visual novels, and having a good cry.” You have been warned!

The studio’s previous project, Bury Me, My Love, received a BAFTA nomination for its transportation narrative, and The Wreck looks to continue the developer’s examination of realistic human interactions. This, combined with its interesting visual style, makes The Wreck one to watch out for in the coming months.
