It is still hard to believe that another attempt is being made to bring Super Mario Bros to the big screen, and it’s even harder to believe that Chris Pratt will take the place of everyone’s favorite mustachioed plumber. This is the world we live in, though, though Pratt insisted that fans will love it in a recent tweet.
Of course, we’ll first see Nintendo’s attempt to redeem Mario’s reputation on the big screen at New York Comic Con on October 6 at 4:00 p.m. fans feel like this movie can only go one of two ways: surprisingly well or just plain wrong.
Regardless, we’re hopeful Nintendo doesn’t repeat the mistakes of the past, considering Mario’s last theatrical appearance in 1993, starring Bob Hoskins, was absolutely abysmal, vilified by critics and audiences alike on Rotten Tomatoes with a rating of 29 percent. A quick visit to that page also reminds us that the movie poster’s tagline is “This is not a game.”
