A blurry future for Superman
Henry Cavill played Superman in three DC Extended Universe productions: Man of Steel (2013), Batman v Superman (2016) and the two versions of Justice League (2017 and 2021). Centered on the superhero’s origins, Man of Steel is Superman’s only solo film, and many would love to see the rest of his adventures. But when will that happen? It’s been five years since we last saw Henry Cavill in Clark Kent’s costume.
On this subject, we hear a bit of everything and its opposite. On one side we have Zack Snyderdirector of Man of Steel and Justice League, who did not fail to resuscitate the hope of the fans by posting on Instagram a photo of Henry Cavill with the mention “my Superman past, present and future“. A publication that suggests that Zack Snyder and Henry Cavill could well team up again within the DC Extended Universe. And then on the other side, there is DC and Warner Bros who would still like to change interpreter for Superman. We come to not know what to think, but the San Diego Comic-Con, which begins today, could well put an end to this suspense.
A surprise at Comic-Con?
According to Deadline magazine, the rumor runs that Henry Cavill should make a surprise appearance at San Diego Comic-Con to talk about Superman. DC Comics is to hold a panel there on black adamas well as on top Shazam! : Fury of the Gods in the afternoon of Saturday July 23. Many rumors claim that Henry Cavill would a cameo in these two films. The perfect opportunity to confirm or not these assertions and at the same time give news of his superhero.
Anyway, it would seem that Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson be on the side of the fans who demand the return of Superman. Earlier this month, he tweeted his support for them, explaining that it’s up to the public to lead the studios in the right direction. “I hear you and I support you,“he concluded. Should we therefore see a clue to the return of Henry Cavill as Superman? A cameo in the film Black Adam, where Dwayne Johnson plays the title role, seems more than likely after this statement.
From back in the day when I was wrestling in flea markets for $40 bucks a match, all the way to now.
I’ve learned to always listen to the audience because they will always lead you to where you need to go.
I hear you & I always got you 👊🏾😉#BlackAdam @SevenBucksProd https://t.co/gqFlDwb8ud—Dwayne Johnson (@TheRock) July 1, 2022
For his part, Henry Cavill is far from being hostile to the idea of donning the costume of the superhero. Last year, he confided his desire to find Superman during an interview for Collider: “I would love to have the opportunity to play the Superman we all know from the comics, as a continuation of his development after Man of Steel. It would be really stimulating for me because it would be a very interesting story.”
We just have to wait until Saturday to find out if Henry Cavill will indeed be making an appearance at San Diego Comic-Con this Saturday and what that will mean for Superman.
