It’s almost a year away from its July 2023 theatrical release, but fan speculation about the cast of the next Marvel movie is endless. the wonders. It’s already known that the film will feature Ms. Marvel, Captain Marvel, and Monica Rambeau, as well as at least a few Skrulls, but little is known about who. Zawe Ashton, who has been confirmed to be the film’s antagonist, will act. But not a few fans believe they have it figured out.
So far, the theory, and we must emphasize that there is no evidence that this information is anything other than speculative, is that Ashton will play Kree General Dar-Benn. In the comics, Dar-Benn and his fellow Kree General Ael-Dan oust the current leader of the Kree Empire and usurp the position from him. The pair ruled as co-emperors until their minds were absorbed by the supreme intelligence of the Kree.
Rumors began to surface weeks ago on social media that Ashton would be playing Ael-Dan, but recently an alleged “leak” surfaced on Reddit suggesting that he will instead be playing Ael-Dan’s co-conspirator Dar-Benn. The information may have come from Murphy’s Multiverse site which stated that Ashton would play Ael-Dan (although the site did not provide a source for the rumored information).
Further speculation was sparked when the “Marvel Updates” Twitter account, also known as marvel_updat3s, appeared to “confirm” that Ashton would play Dar-Benn. It should be noted that marvel_updat3s does not appear to have any official connection to Marvel Studios and appears to be a fan account.
It seems that any speculation about Ashton’s role is, at least at this point, just that: speculation. That said, a Kree antagonist is certainly not amazing when it comes to wondering who could serve as the movie’s antagonist. The Kree almost certainly haven’t forgotten Carol Danvers and a coup may install leadership intent on capturing her and/or renewing hostilities with the Skrulls, who will definitely be a major part of the movie.
But barring an actual confirmation from Marvel, fans will just have to wait until the film’s release in July 2023 to find out.
