One of DC’s first attempts to catch up with the Marvel Cinematic Universe saw Ryan Reynolds star as daredevil Hal Jordan in 2011 Green Lantern, which failed miserably. Even then, some fans want to see him return to the role.
Warner Bros. has let the Green Lantern character and mantle languish since 2011, with no one really sure when the studio will find justice for the character. DC fans are now debating whether he should return, and the verdict is surprisingly positive.
Reynolds returned to his Deadpool suit after the unmitigated disaster that was X-Men Origins: Wolverine and made the Merc with a Mouth truly his own, but is it really a good idea to go back to the green screen nightmare suit? There was criticism for his performance in Green Lantern for not embodying Hal Jordan, and a call is for Alden Ehrenreich to take over.
There were reports that he was set to make a comeback in by Zack Snyder League of Justicebut the idea of a Lantern appearing was completely rejected by Warner Bros.
If he were to return, he would be one of several actors to play roles in the rival DC and Marvel brands, with one commentator stating that he would be the “crown jewel” of both universes. A big, big call.
A Green Lantern series of Arrow Producer Mark Guggenheim, who will star Finn Wittrock as Guy Gardner, is in the works. Guggenheim also served as a writer in 2011 Green Lantern movie, so second chances are a thing in the world of DC.
