In case you missed it, there’s a new Detective Pikachu game on the way to Nintendo Switch. When The Pokémon Company originally announced it in 2019, it was mentioned how it would conclude the original game’s story.
If you’re wondering what has happened to this project since then, don’t worry, it still exists. Following an update earlier this year, it appears that a LinkedIn page may have revealed that the project may be nearing completion.
Creatures Inc and PTCG Development Division Senior Programmer Jonathan Murphy (who has been on the job for 5 years) notes how he has worked on an “unannounced project” and Detective Pikachu 2which is about to be published:
Using Unity/C#, He worked on an unannounced and soon to be released project, Detective Pikachu 2.
– Had ownership of the main functions of the game, doing everything from the initial design of the system to the final implementation.
– Provided expert consultation on the effective use of Unity and modern development practices.
Considering that this game was announced in 2019, it’s probably no surprise that it’s about to release. Earlier in February of this year, a quote from the Creatures Inc website assured fans that the game was still in development:
The original Detective Pikachu game was released for Nintendo 3DS in 2018. A movie followed a year later. Would you be interested in a Nintendo Switch sequel to the original game? Comment below.
