The sequel to Detective Pikachu is apparently “close to release,” according to a developer’s LinkedIn profile.
As first picked up by FamiBoards (opens in a new tab) Earlier this week, a developer from The Pokemon Company may have shed new light on plans for Detective Pikachu 2. This developer’s “Experience” section of their LinkedIn profile reveals that a project they worked on, namely Detective Pikachu 2 is “close to release”. .”
This is the first time we’ve heard about Detective Pikachu 2 in a long time. Earlier in February of this year, contributing developer Creatures revealed that they were still working on the game, and that it was in active development, via a section on their website.
This simple admission was newsworthy because we hadn’t heard anything about Detective Pikachu 2 in the previous three years. After announcing the sequel in 2019, both The Pokémon Company and Creatures have gone completely silent about the sequel, never mentioning it at countless Pokémon Presents showcases since then.
With this in mind, it would be easy to see why fans naturally assumed the sequel had been cancelled. We still don’t know when Detective Pikachu 2 might be released, but we’re hoping it’s “close to release.”
