Frozen is a game largely about decision making. Being an RTS, this is one of the basic principles that make it interesting. Where do you X, when do you press Y and all that good stuff? Clans are one of the most interesting decisions you can make because there is no going back.
Clans are permanent choices that determine how effective you will be in a given game at a given task. Some clans are more aggressive, others are more defensive. Heck, some love to run around and tame random bears. Each scenario will demand something different from you, and clans can help tip the scales in your favor.
4 Raven Clan
Before we get into the Raven Clan, we just want to preface that there are no “bad” Clans in Frozenheim. They are all-powerful and can all be used to great effect. Unfortunately, the worst of the bunch is probably the Raven Clan. This is simply due to a very specific approach that is not always applied.
The Raven Clan is all about Religion and Exploration. These are two powerful things, as Runestones can instantly win the game, and exploration is a vital part of the gameplay loop. However, all clans can explore and all clans can use runestones. The real kicker is that not every map or scenario uses runestones, so Raven Clans’ biggest draw, Loki’s Sight, is completely useless.
There are other reasons to choose the Clan, of course, but when a huge boon to your faction is removed, you can’t help but feel like you’re playing at a disadvantage. No other clan has a scenario where his abilities just don’t work. The final nail is that runestones do not change location. If you know where they are from experience, then all that skill is worthless 100 percent of the time. Oh.
3 wolf clan
Two clans specialize in combat and both are very good at it. So good that we hummed and hummed for quite some time before placing the Wolf Clan at number three. When it comes to relentless aggression, the Wolf Clan is where it’s at. They have the strongest units, make them more efficient, and have access to the brutally powerful Berserker.
Everything the Wolf Clan does is focused on combat. They have very little incentive to slow down and play the long game. His people are happiest when blood is spilled, his warriors are especially good at it, and in the early game, nothing can stand against his unique units.
If you’re playing Wolf Clan, you’re coming in hard and fast. No mercy, no breath. If an enemy clan isn’t executing a combat strategy or similarly focused clan, you might just get through them with one hit. They are masters at their craft.
two bear clan
The Wolf Clan sounds pretty good, but the Bear Clan does a lot of what the Wolf Clan does, without sacrificing in other areas. While not as damaging as the Wolf Clan, the Bear Clan is incredibly difficult to switch thanks to a seemingly endless number of ways they can improve their defenses.
Your units and buildings have more HP. Your units and buildings have more armor. They can build armies that cost almost no resources and can build more siege weapons than anyone else. They are turtles that can attack with an unstoppable wave of ranged supremacy and tanks.
A prepared bear clan can repel almost any invasion and then retaliate in truly devastating ways. They are efficient in almost every way, and that is why they are so powerful. They can attack, they can defend, and their production goes up simply because they don’t use as many resources.
1 deer clan
How do you get past the bear clan? Surely they are the undisputed masters of Frozenheim? Well, the Deer Clan does a good job. Not because they are powerful in terms of combat, but because they are unmatched when it comes to production. The deer clan can raise the largest armies, amass the most resources, and produce the toughest unit once they get going.
No Clan can accumulate as many resources as the Deer Clan. They have more of everything, and can do even more almost at will. They have so many resources in excess, that having access to a Trader or Marketplace results in infinite resources. You can buy as much as you want and get a fantastic deal on that purchase to boot.
Not only that, the cost of upgrading Deer Clans technology is noticeably lower than other factions. You can quickly gain skills like the Deer Clan and not feel the impact of the resource. Once you reach the end of the game, you also gain access to Housecarl, a unit that specializes in killing other infantry. Every unit in Frozenheim (except siege weapons) is an infantry unit. The deer clan gets rich, upgrades quickly, gets one of the best units in the game, and then wins.
They are easy to use, powerful and the best of everything. It turns out that they are the masters of everything.
