The end of avengers endgame It was the poignant climax to over a decade of filming and storytelling, but new concept art has revealed that the final moments could have been very different.
Early drawing boards show that Marvel Studios hadn’t confirmed that Iron Man’s sacrifice would save the universe, instead wondering if Karen Gillan’s Nebula might give her life for the greater good. During development, it was considered a fitting ending for her arc, as her conflict with her abusive foster father would have ultimately undone her life’s work.
this would have done End of the game follows the original ‘Infinity Gauntlet’ arc much more closely, as the original comic sees Nebula ending the saga. The decision to remove Iron Man was not universally popular at Marvel Studios, as Jon Favreau revealed in a recent interview. Fans are still in awe of the art showing this alternate ending.
Some commentators have offered the brutal version that Nebula’s sacrifice would have been more heartbreaking than Tony Stark’s. But, as Nebula had appeared in only four films at the time End of the game rolled and Stark had fronted eight and was the face of the MCU, we have to disagree.
is a real And yes…? Scenario, with fans mostly believing the right decision was made, but still happy to see a glimpse of what this might look like in the flesh.
Nebula will make what could be her last appearances during guardians of the galaxy vol. 3, which will hit theaters on May 5, 2023.
