Apocalyptic farming sim Harvestella is coming to Switch and PC (Steam) on November 4, and you’ll be able to try out its bizarre mix of Final Fantasy and Stardew Valley via a free Switch demo arriving today, September 13.
The surprise release of the demo was quietly announced during today’s Nintendo Direct. Harvestella is basically a pre-apocalypse JRPG spliced with the joyous farming lifestyle that has made a comeback in recent years, and it still looks downright weird.
A Harvestella demo is just needed after so many bizarre reveals, both to give fans a practical explanation of how the heck this game is played, and to allow them to see if it’s controversial price of $60 it’s just after all.
Harvestella was previously featured in a Nintendo Treehouse showcase split between him and Splatoon 3. The live demo showcased open-world exploration, real-time combat, and seasonal changes that alter the game world as you approach Quietus’ deadly period. We also saw the farming simulator’s mandatory fishing minigame, crop harvesting, and resource grabbing.
It’s a safe bet that we’ll be collecting seeds and materials from monsters to use on the farm, and it looks like many crops can be turned into cash to fuel equipment upgrades or used as ingredients for food that provide buffs and manage our hunger meter. . This really does feel like two games in one, so it will be interesting to see how else the JRPG side of Harvestella relates to farming and vice versa.
As it happens, today’s Nintendo Direct also featured another fantasy farming sim: Fae Farm, a cooperative farmer From the creators of the multiplayer monster hunting RPG Dauntless.
