Final Fantasy VII Remake is a sprawling reimagining of the opening Midgard section of the 1997 original. Not only did Square Enix lovingly recreate one of the most iconic video game settings in history, it turned short sequences like Wall Market into grand adventures in their own right. With the approach of the second chapter of the remake series, Final Fantasy VI revivalSquare Enix needs to give some love to one of the best moments of final fantasy VII: The sequence of dates in the amusement park Gold Saucer.
The lady’s man, the man’s man, the man about town. Cloud Strife is popular with the ladies. Maybe she doesn’t exude charm like Zack Fair, but something about her moody vibes and his spiky hair just screams “you can fix it.”
FF7 don’t shy away from romance. In fact, she leans heavily on him often to the point of being out of control and horny. While the group tries to stop the end of the world, they can still do other things thanks to the many wacky mini-games available. In one of the most memorable sequences from the original game, Cloud goes on a legit date.
While spending the night at the huge Gold Saucer amusement park, Cloud will knock on his door. Upon replying, he will find someone who asks him out (either Tifa, Aerith, Yuffie, or Barret, depending on the dialogue options above). These dates are lavishly designed so that the player sees Cloud as a normal guy who wants to kiss the girl he likes. How relatable!
There are more than 10 individual minigames in Gold Saucer, and on date night, they’re all 100 percent free. Cloud can take his date around the park and try to impress them while scoring high on games. Cloud then takes a gondola ride, which is about as romantic as being on a Ferris wheel at a state fair. This moment is different for each date, but in each instance, he strikes a balance between humorous and sincere. Aerith confides in Cloud that she really wants to get to know him, beyond this façade he puts on.
Final Fantasy dating sim?!? — Wall Market was a small section of the original FF7but ff7 new version turned it into a massive hub area filled with minigames and side quests. The moment in Wall Market that stands out the most for me is the Honeybee Inn, which gives players a full rhythm game to play.
Square Enix went to great lengths to make ff7 new version a rare game for rare players. At a time when the main franchise is pushing for more “mature” storytelling, the gleeful absurdity of these minigames feels refreshing. This is not to say that it detracts from the deeply emotional story of FF7. In fact, seeing these characters experience joy makes the story that much more difficult.
So it’s up to Square Enix to make the Gold Saucer date an absolutely lavish event in ff7 renaissance. I want a full dating sim in the game. Let me tell Aerith that I think she looks pretty, but let me also criticize him and tell him that she looks “okay, I guess”. I want to SWEAT on this date more than I have during any boss fight in a Dark souls play. The original FF7 he decided who Cloud would go on a date with by verifying an invisible number to the player that he had counted during the game’s playtime through numerous options. If you were that bad at flirting with any of the girls in the game, you’d go on a friends night out with Barrett.
However, Square Enix is on the same page, and we’ve already had our first taste of the dating mechanic. In ff7 new version there are a number of choices that will lead to a pivotal scene at the turn of Chapter 14. There is already a hidden counter in the game that counts how you act towards Aerith and Tifa, and determines which one is your true love.
Every choice you make will add up and lead to the Gold Saucer, for a wonderful night.
