Final Fantasy XIV Patch 6.2 is a big one, and the preliminary patch notes released today are just as big. We will mainly focus on the long-awaited Island Sanctuary feature: a place where you can create your “own personal paradise”, collect resources, build structures, farm and cultivate the land. It is a farming simulator that everyone has been waiting for.

Unlock
Only players who have completed Endwalker can unlock Island Sanctuary. No Disciples of the Hand or Earth jobs are required to participate in island activities. The Island Sanctuary unlock quest is found in Old Sharlayan (X: 11.9, Y: 11.0), and players need to speak to the Clueless Crier. By talking to Baldin in Lower La Noscea (X: 24.9, Y: 34.8), players can travel to his Island Sanctuary at any time. The development team will also implement multiple field instances in Lower La Noscea so that the area will not become congested when 6.2 launches.
sanctuary rank
Each island has a Sanctuary Rank, and the higher it is, the more features are available. You can increase your Shrine Rank by participating in activities on the island. The more tasks you do on the island, the more sea cowries and island cowries (special currencies) you will earn.
island activities
- Meeting: Collect resources on the land. You can check what you’ve collected via the Islekeep index
- Elaboration: With the material collected, you can craft items in the Shrine Crafting Log. There is also a workshop where hired mamets can create handicrafts.
- Building: By clicking on the longboard in front of a vacant plot, players will say what materials they need and how long structures like a cozy cabin will take. The cozy cabin will be your base of operations and is the place to trade items with the merchants.
- Agriculture and Livestock: Not only can you farm, you can also take care of the wildlife on the island. Minions too, up to 40, can roam freely on your island.
Social
Players can visit other players’ islands (must be friends, FC members, or party members) and each island can host up to 16 players. You will not be able to craft or harvest on another player’s island. To get to other players’ islands, talk to Baldin in the Lower Noscea (X: 24.9, Y: 34.8). If you want to open your own island for visits, you will need to reach a “sufficient shrine rank”.
In the non-Island Sanctuary related patch notes, players can expect to enter a new dungeon called the Fell Court of Troia in 6.2, as well as a new trial. The next Pandaemonium raid will also be available, and it’s titled Pandaemonium: Abyssos.
The weekly limit for Astronomy gravestones has also been removed. Previously, players could only earn 450 per week. However, the maximum inventory limit of 2,000 still applies. The Steps of Faith has also been transformed into a single-player quest battle instead of an eight-part trial.
Miscellaneous other settings:
- Glamor Dresser has increased capacity from 400 to 800
- Many glamor items unlocked by gender, such as the Far Eastern Maiden’s Hat and Mun’gaek Boots.
- Adventure Plates Coming Out of Beta and Now Officially Launched
- The new PvP season will start with 6.2
- A couple of tweaks to the Ivalice quests: changes to the NPCs that can give the quest and the quest titles.
There are plenty more minor updates in patch 6.2, and for a rundown of it all, head over to Lodestone’s official FFXIV 6.2 patch notes. Patch 6.2 will be released on August 22.
