The September 2022 Nintendo Direct opened with the official reveal of Fire Emblem Engage, a new Fire Emblem game, due out this coming January. And, in the days that followed, the official Japanese Fire Emblem Twitter account He’s been sharing clips of some of your future squad members in combat, and he’s looking very handsome.
First up is the main character, who has been dubbed ‘Colgate-chan’ by the internet. They’re actually called Alear, not so catchy, right? – and they are a Divine Dragon. This short snippet shows our red and blue haired hero dealing a critical hit to his opponent and from the animation to the beautiful colors we are blown away.
We have also met Vander, a paladin and a dragon guardian. He is the one who has been taking care of Alear, who just woke up from a 1,000-year sleep and is the typical serious and strict old man.
In a very different location than Alear, Vander also takes charge and can be seen on the move in combat. The environments look much more detailed, and Intelligent Systems seems to be really leaning into those critical hit animations!
The last clip is of Clan, a wizard character who is as cute as a button. Except when he throws fire at you. We got to see both Clan and Vander, along with a bunch of other characters during the reveal trailer, but this gives us a closer look at his abilities.
In another new indoor location, we’re very impressed with the fire and lighting effects, which seem like a significant step up from 2019’s Fire Emblem: Three Houses.
So far, Fire Emblem Engage is looking pretty good, and we can’t believe we only have to wait four months to get our hands on it. It launches on January 20, 2023, and we already know roughly how much space it will take up. You can pre-order the game, including the Divine Edition (if there are any left!) right here:
