You can get a free legendary skin from Overwatch 2 in October as part of a compensation package from Blizzard that will be sent to players of the multiplayer game after its troubled launch. In its first week, the beleaguered game has suffered from DDoS attacks, repeated OW2 server downtimes, temporary removal of characters after a ridiculous Overwatch 2 exploit, and repeated instances of an OW2 hero crash bug preventing players access most of the game’s resources. ready.
“Since the launch of Overwatch 2, we have been impressed by your enthusiasm and incredibly moved by the sheer number of you experiencing our game,” Blizzard says in a post addressing the next steps for the FPS game. “But we know we’ve also run into some major issues.” He acknowledges the various challenges, “both anticipated and unexpected,” but says he’s happy the team has “largely stabilized the game overall and made a lot of progress fixing or improving issues that some of you are facing.”
As a thank you to players who have stuck with the game through its many troubles, Blizzard reaches out with an olive branch. The first of these is a couple of gifts for all players who log in from October 25 until the end of the first season, which is currently scheduled for December 5. Logging in anytime during that time period will grant you “a total of new Legendary Cursed Captain Reaper skin and Health Pack weapon charm.”
Additionally, Blizzard says it’s “planning to run several double-match XP weekends” to “help make up for lost time” as a result of server outages. The exact dates for these have yet to be confirmed, though Blizzard says it will announce them shortly. Additionally, Blizzard has now assigned an official post on the “Overwatch 2 Known Issues” forum that says it will keep you updated with the latest news and information.
One of the most common complaints from returning fans is the lack of polish in Overwatch 2’s visual design. While it’s certainly a gorgeous game, many players miss the little touches from the previous game, like the player cards from end of round and the ‘on fire’ mechanic to highlight the best players in a match. However, as more people play, there seems to be a consensus that the game overall is a lot of fun, so hopefully those other issues can be ironed out as development on the live service game continues.
