Morfydd Clark, who plays Galadriel in Amazon’s upcoming The Rings of Power series, revealed that she literally swooned when she found out she had been cast in the Lord of the Rings show.
Clark told Variety that she was informed of her casting as Galadriel during a screening and question-and-answer session for her 2019 film The Personal History of David Copperfield. “I suddenly realized how important this was to me, and passed out during the question and answer session. I got caught by a lovely security guard,” Clark said.
“I knew I was auditioning for an elf, but I didn’t know which one,” Clark said. “So my sister and I went crazy trying to figure it out. I never dreamed it would be Galadriel.”
Galadriel was portrayed by Oscar-winning actress Cate Blanchett in Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings film series. Clark said that she has not yet contacted Blanchett, but praised her performance.
“Her acting was such a big part of my life. Those movies got me through exams, problems, adolescence. She was with me the whole time,” Clark said.
The Rings of Power premieres on September 1 on Prime Video with two episodes. The remaining six in season 1 will air on Fridays at midnight Eastern.
In related news, author George RR Martin commented on the so-called “rivalry” between House of the Dragon and The Rings of Power, saying he hopes both shows will be successful.
