Jennifer Lopez recently made waves by revealing that she wasn’t necessarily thrilled to share the stage at the Super Bowl with Latina superstar Shakira. now fellow star Gloria Estefan has responded to those comments, saying that the organizers wanted to put on the biggest show possible and in this case that meant more than one singer.

The 64-year-old singer appeared on Watch What Happens live with Andy Cohen to reply to comments.

“Look, this is the end result. You have very little time, like 12 minutes or so, to put things on and take things off the set. So could you do it with just one person? Yeah, but I think they wanted to throw a big Latin and Miami show and they tried to pack in as much as possible.”

Estefan’s comments are particularly apt because the singer was also asked to perform, but she turned it down, saying she didn’t want to have to diet to get ready for the stage.

“OK, and imagine what J.Lo would have said if I were the third [performer]! I would literally go out, done ‘Shake Your Body’ [and ‘Conga’] and out. It was his moment. Also, I didn’t want to go on a diet in December.”

In the Netflix movie Halftimerecounting the historic performance, the 52-year-old singer-actress said it was the “worst idea” to have two singers on the show.

We’ve got six fucking minutes. We have 30 seconds of a song, and if we take one minute, that’s it, we have five left. But there have to be certain songs that we sing. We have to have our singing moments. It’s not going to be a fucking dance revue. We have to sing our message. … This is the worst idea in the world for two people to do the Super Bowl. It was the worst idea in the world.”

His manager, Benny Medina, also echoed those sentiments in the film.

“Normally, you have a headliner at a Super Bowl. That headliner builds a show, and if they decide to have other guests, that’s their choice. It was an insult to say that you needed two Latinas to do the work that an artist has historically done.”

Shakira, for her part, has kept quiet about the whole ordeal. As she is currently going through a breakup with her longtime partner, Gerard Pique, she may have other things on her mind.
