Do we still have to present the mythical GoldenEye 007? Originally released on nintendo64 in 1997, the FPS of Rare is considered by many players as the title that literally democratized the genre. Many still remember the frenzied four-player split-screen games, and just reading the title of the game could make anyone who has already spent a few hours on it nostalgic. After a few rare rumors and clues here and there, the HD remake of the game originally planned for Xbox 360 and then canceled several years ago has already resurfaced and promises an Xbox Series release., in particular thanks to a list of successes once again unveiled. It was in 2007. While the developers of Rare were working on an HD remake of their mythical GoldenEye planned for Xbox 360 and seemed ready to release it, Nintendo had refused that the project could see the light of day on anything other than one of their consoles. All hopes of a port with refined features then collapsed, until last January.

Indeed, without warning, a list of successes appeared on the site True Achievementsnormally dedicated to games available on Microsoft consoles. The list therefore included no less than 55 successes, covering the 20 levels of the game as well as the three difficulty modes. Even better, they seemed to announce timed challenge modes, and especially a multiplayer mode. But the icing on the cake was represented by two players who achieved some of these successes: some BIGsheep and Waylander73, both developers at Rare. The rumors then seemed solid: a game existed on Microsoft consoles, and it was advanced enough to be playable.

Without any official announcement, the players subsequently had nothing to eat for several weeks. But last February, we learned that the journalist of VentureBeat Jeff Grubb (an extremely reliable insider) had communicated about the release of this famous HD port of GoldenEye 007. At that time he had said:

I think Microsoft will be the first to announce it (GoldenEye 007, editor’s note). I think this game will probably arrive very soon, in my opinion within the next few weeks.

No luck for him or for fans of the Nintendo 64 game, the next few weeks in question are now well behind us, and no announcements have been made from Rare or Microsoft. However, a new clue just appeared a few days ago.

A not very discreet spy

It is once again via the list of successes that GoldenEye HD is making headlines again today. If it had been revealed by TrueAchievements a few months ago, it is now directly on the Xbox servers that it appeared for a while, before finally being removed. Luckily, Twitter user @Wario64 took screenshots before Microsoft realized their mistake.

While checking the achievement list on TrueAchievements, players may also have noticed that the famous BIGsheep had again unlocked an achievement at the beginning of last month. Something to give a little grain to grind to fans of the game who are waiting more than ever for an announcement from Microsoft. Knowing that a Microsoft & Bethesda Games Showcase conference is scheduled for this Sunday, all hopes are allowed regarding an announcement of GoldenEye HD on Xbox Series.
