Halo Infinite was finally released more than a year late in late 2021, but it arrived in an incomplete state. No cooperative campaign, for starters. The mode has been delayed several times and should be available in August, but the game that appeared online this week had players wondering if this was our first look at Infinite’s co-op campaign or just a really compelling mod.
As reported by GamesRadar, the first of two videos, which you can watch below, shows two Master Chiefs fighting side-by-side from the start of Infinite’s campaign. Instead of having to fight Covenant soldiers alone, you have a fellow Spartan to lighten the load. There is also another video showing the same two Master Chiefs fighting shoulder to shoulder in Halo Ring Zeta.
Given that beta testing has yet to begin for Infinite’s co-op campaign, it seems more likely that this is an awesome mod rather than a leaked game. Last we heard from 343, Infinite’s co-op campaign will enter beta testing in July with a full release the following month if all goes according to plan. The co-op campaign beta test will only be available to Halo Insiders, so sign up now if you want to be one of the first to try it out.
One of the reasons Halo fans have been led to believe that the above images could be a leak rather than a mod is because the same thing already happened with Forge. Another popular Halo mod yet to be added to Infinite, Forge is scheduled to arrive even later than the co-op campaign. Once again, another modification that has already been delayed several times. If the Forge leak is legitimate, then perhaps the co-op campaign videos really are a good indicator of what to expect when the mod finally arrives in August.
Halo Infinite news has been a bit light outside of potential leaks and mods. Not a good sign for a live service game that 343 will strive to keep relevant for the long haul. His long seasons will be partly to blame for that. Despite the release of Infinite last year, the second season has just started and will run for six months, just like the first.
