Coming out “this fall”
A Disney Valley of Dreamlight The Toy Story update is on the way, and now we have a full trailer to see what it really entails.
Like most character-based things in light of dreams, will feature new missions (with Woody and Buzz), as well as additional space to roam and new items. According to the trailer, you will enter the new space similar to the other lands in the game (such as vaiana): through a special door in the castle. This time, the toy story kingdom is symbolized by a drawing of an alien head.
Disney Valley of Dreamlight kind of snuck into me. The Early Access release model + monetization scheme + Gameloft involvement kept me wary, but after some positive hands-on impressions, I decided to give it a go. Not bad! There’s some free-to-play nonsense built in, but there’s a lot you can do, especially up front, in the current version. It’s a different take on the farming/simulation genre in many ways, as it’s heavily tied to key quests and characters – which makes sense for an IP factory like Disney.
In any case, there is time to iron out some concerns about the game before it launches next year, but I’m not hopeful about the monetization element: especially after launch.
