In the room episode of house of the dragonRhaenyra Targaryen’s (Milly Alcock) search for a mate takes center stage.
While the latest installment of the HBO series sees King Viserys I Targaryen (Paddy Considine) finally choose a suitor for his eldest daughter and heiress, Rhaenyra goes through a lot before that happens. Not only is she involved with her sworn bodyguard Ser Criston Cole (Fabien Frankel), but she is also forced to deny the rumors surrounding the night she spent outside the Red Keep walls with her uncle. she Daemon (Matt Smith).
Before any of that, though, Episode 4 begins with Rhaenyra forced to judge a long list of suitors who have come from across the realm to seek her hand in marriage. Weather game of Thrones viewers may not realize, a suitor shares the same last name as an iconic game of Thrones hero.
A family name — In the opening scene of Episode 4, Rhaenyra Targaryen is forced to sit on a throne and listen as a wine-loving knight explains why he should become her husband.
Rhaenyra finally cuts the man off by noting, much to her controller’s annoyance, that he is much older than her. When she does, Rhaenyra refers to the man as “Lord Dondarrion”. His first name is not revealed, but the last name alone should sound very familiar to you. game of Thrones fans.
That’s because Lord Dondarrion appears in house of the dragon is, in all likelihood, an ancestor of Beric Dondarrion (Richard Dormer).
A leader without flags — game of Thrones Viewers will remember Beric Dondarrion as the leader of the Brotherhood Without Banners, outlaws operating in the Riverlands to combat the Lannister presence in the region. Beric is not just the leader of the group, but someone who dies multiple times and is repeatedly brought back to life by his second-in-command, Thoros of Myr (Paul Kaye).
Beric has several notable interactions with the likes of Arya Stark (Maisie Williams) and The Hound (Rory McCann). Later, he joins the show’s central heroes in their fight against the White Walkers. Beric is one of the most unique and notable supporting players., so it’s exciting to see House Dondarrion mentioned on screen again.
While George RR Martin has written reams of literature to flesh out the history of Westerosi, we know next to nothing about House Dondarrion beyond Beric’s history. Any glimpse of his parents is therefore new information, and perhaps an indication of how the Dondarrions went from being just another noble house to one that produced a man as unique as Beric.
Also, while it is unclear which of Beric’s ancestors offends Rhaenyra, it is possible that Lord Dondarrion, who appears in house of the dragon The last episode may be the same one whose butler turned out to be the father of a certain Ser Criston Cole.
the Reverse Analysis – Beric Dondarrion will not be born until more than 100 years after the events of house of the dragon. That means that Lord Dondarrion, who appeared in Episode 4, is destined to meet his end several generations before Beric reunites the Brotherhood Without Banners.
But how game of Thrones Fans already know that Beric ultimately proves to be a much more honorable and noble man than the arrogant and lascivious Dondarrion ancestor we just met.
