Tinker Knight has been a part of every Shovel Knight game so far, and is back in Dig as a member of the Hexcavators. He goes through the Smelterworks and you will have to deal with the tiny knight before you can move on to the next biome. As always, he has some dangerous inventions for you to deal with.

How to defeat Tinker Knight – Phase 1
Tinker Knight begins the battle with a small health bar as he glides around on a drill-tipped biplane. As he crosses back and forth, he launches missiles and throws keys at you. Keys can actually bounce, but it’s best not to be too sophisticated at this early stage. Wait for Tinker Knight to dive to the ground, then jump down to land on him with a ricocheting shovel attack. If he catches him at the right angle, he can take a few hits as he follows him around the arc of his flight path.
How to defeat Tinker Knight – Phase 2
Once that smaller health bar is gone, the real battle begins. Tinker Knight calls the lava ship from him, which has many more defenses than the small plane. He can fire a volley of missiles into the air, so be ready to back away from them as they fall. He can also crash into the side of the arena, sending waves of lava lapping at the deck – climb onto the higher platforms to stay safe. Lastly, the ship can sink further, leaving only the upper decks as safe spaces. Keep an eye out for volcanic rocks shooting over the boat in an arc during this time.
Throughout this phase, Tinker Knight will appear and exit decks throughout the ship. If he’s under cover, you won’t be able to hit him, so he keeps dodging the keys he throws. If he comes out of any of the others, take the opportunity to take some hits; you can tell which one he is about to emerge from because he will glow red. Be careful once you start seeing more than one glow, because the ones he doesn’t use will actually release a jet of fire. Wait until you see it emerge before rushing in.
The second phase of Tinker Knight is much more dangerous than the first, so be careful not to play too loose during the beginning of the battle. Stay away from his many traps and you will eventually destroy both this knight and his new ship.
