So, you’ve pre-ordered a digital PS5 game through the PlayStation Store, and all you have left is to watch and wait until the unlock countdown clock reaches zero. That wait can be even more excruciating when it comes to a game you’ve been looking forward to for a long time, and you know the game is already over and you just have to keep waiting. So is there a way to play PS5 games earlier by changing your region or time zone?
The answer is Yesyou can play PS5 games sooner if you bought them digitally, but it’s a lot more complicated than you think.
On Xbox, simply changing your time zone to somewhere like New Zealand will allow you to skip a countdown until a game is released, but there’s no such trick on PS5. Simply changing your storefront won’t work; you need to create a completely new PSN NZ account.
How to make a new PSN NZ account
Players will have to create new zealand psn account Since that region is ahead of the rest, please purchase the game on that account using New Zealand-specific gift cards, as your regular debit/credit card won’t work.
This means that you will not be able to have your trophy information on your main account and you will have to re-add your friends on this new account to play with them. You’ll also need to sign up for PlayStation Plus again if you want to play a non-free game together.
Here is a quick step-by-step guide:
1. Turn on your PS5 and select New user.
2. Choose Create a user. Accept the agreement, then ignore the PSN login for now.
3. Select New to PlayStation Network? Create an account.
4. In order to play PS5 games before, be sure to select New Zealand as your region in the account creation process.
5. Enter all the basic details normally, but when it comes to the location, choose anywhere within New Zealand by randomly googling a New Zealand location.
6. Create a new email address that is not connected to a PSN ID, then enter it in the field.
7. Complete the rest of the basic data, accept the agreements and that’s it.
As for buying games from other stores, you’ll need to buy a digital gift card somewhere like Amazon for that specific region, you will need New Zealand gift cards. Once your code has been sent to you, you can easily redeem it on PlayStation Store and fund your account.
If all is well when setting up your new account, you should be able to purchase and download games from other regions and play your PS5 games sooner.
Does Sony agree with this?
Sony tends to be very strict when it comes to exploiting any of their systems and using loopholes to get around things, and while we haven’t personally heard anything about anyone getting account banned for changing PSN regions to play PS5 games before, it does work against their TOS to create an account with false information, which is basically what you’re doing when you create an account for another region. Discretion Advised.
