The Doedicurus in Ark Survival Evolved is a slow-moving, armored herbivore that looks more like a rock come to life than a dinosaur. This quadrupedal creature is a vital addition to any base, and as it is one of the easiest to tame, it is very popular at lower levels. The Doed, as it is affectionately known among players, is cute and slow, which makes taming it quite simple compared to other creatures. This guide will explain how to tame the Doedicurus in Ark: Survival Evolved.
What Doedicurus does in Ark: Survival Evolved
The Doed is a non-aggressive creature that will not attack unless provoked. Usually found in pairs or trios, the Doed sports a long, pointed tail similar to that of its cousin Ankylosaurus. Also, like the Ankylosaurus, the Doed is used to gather hard resources, particularly Stone. It is also great for collecting elemental dust on the extinction map, gas condensate, sand, and blue gems found in Aberration. The Doed also has a passive ability that reduces the weight of Stone in your inventory by 75%.
The Doed’s slow speed is offset by the fun alternate attack mode, which turns it into a rolling rock. This mode increases your movement speed and protects your player from incoming damage by protecting you with Doed’s hard shell. It does reduce the turning radius quite a bit though, so be careful if you roll off cliffs.

Here’s what you’ll need to tame the Doedicurus in Ark: Survival Evolved:
- 1 long neck rifle, crossbow or Tek bow. As always, the higher the weapon’s damage percentage, the less taming ammo you’ll need.
- Tranquilizer Darts, Shocking Tranquilizer Darts, Tranquilizer Arrows, or Element Fragments, depending on your weapon.
- Normal croquette. At a 1x taming rate, a level 150 Done will require 17 regular croquettes to tame. you can use a blood elixir to increase taming by 30% once. If you don’t have Kibble, you can also use Basic Crops or Bestberries.
How to tame the Doedicurus in Ark: Survival Evolved

The Doedicurus is slow but persistent in its attacks. The lack of speed means you’ll be able to outrun him easily. You can employ a simple shoot-and-run strategy until it runs away from you once its torpor gets too high. If he’s not in the mood, you can take the high ground or even use a Net Gun to stop him from attacking you.
Remember that the Doedicurus is an armored creature, so do not shoot its shell either back. Instead, aim for the neck, head, legs, or tail for maximum Torpor damage. Always stop shooting once the creature has fallen unconscious and avoid allowing it to take damage, or you’ll ruin your perfect taming.
