Hulu’s Hellraiser Reboot Gets a Strong R Rating

If your level of enthusiasm for Spyglass Entertainment’s upcoming Hellraiser reboot has been lackluster thus far, the recent announcement regarding the film’s rating might change your mind. One of two main Hellraiser projects, the upcoming film reboot will star Sense8 actress Jamie Clayton in the role of Hell Priest (previously known to fans as Pinhead), and will be directed by The Night House’s David Bruckner. , and has now been officially rated r

What does that mean? While we don’t have much information on the actual plot yet, nor do we know when the release will debut as a Hulu original, the rating indicates a film that will feature “heavy, bloody horror violence and gore, full language, some sexual content, and brief graphic nudity.” We also know that Clive Barker himself will be on board as a producer, and everything we currently know about this project indicates that he’s an active part of the ongoing effort to bring the Cenobites back in style.

The new Hellraiser movie promises to be a “loyal but evolved reimagining of Clive Barker’s 1987 horror classic.” That sounds like the kind of thing anyone would promise when tasked with reimagining one of the most beloved horror movies of the last 40 years. With an R rating behind it, a promising new take on the Hell Priest concept, and a considerably higher budget than the last few entries in the long-running franchise, there’s plenty to be excited about.

We also know that the film will debut before the other big project, an HBO series that currently has directors and writers like David Gordon Green (Halloween 2018 and Halloween Kills), Michael Dougherty (Trick r Treat, Godzilla: King of the Monsters) , and Mark Verheiden (Battlestar Galactica) behind him.
