Moonscars, the upcoming 2D action game from Humble Games, looks like the closest we’ll get to Bloodborne on PC in a long time. Humble and developer Black Mermaid released a Moonscars release date trailer following the game’s original announcement in March 2022, featuring an expanded look at protagonist Gray Irma and the dark and brutal journey that awaits her as she seeks to discover mysterious circumstances surrounding his birth and life.
“Explore the shadows and hidden secrets by moonlight of a 2D non-linear painterly realm clouded by despair and despair,” Black Mermaid says in the game’s description.
Non-linear aside, despair and despair sounds exactly like something you’d get from FromSoftware. Check it out in the trailer below.
Gray Irma wields a massive Claymore to begin with, but can switch to other special weapons, including bones and Ichor, and powerful sorcery magic to augment her combat capabilities. She needs all the help they can get, but even the best laid plans will inevitably result in death. That is by design. Black Mermaid says that the goal is to find triumph through failure, and from the looks of the trailer, it sounds like failure will probably be a pretty common thing.
Gray faces a host of shadowy enemies, from shield-wielding behemoths to crawling foes that leap from hiding places in the ground and grab Gray in their wake, and even throbbing, blood-soaked plants that block Grey’s path.
Luckily for her, there are a host of new abilities available in the cycle of death and rebirth, including magic and combat abilities.
