jordan peele Nope it may have worked perfectly well as a standalone sci-fi thriller that won over fans and critics alike, but there may be an expansion of the film’s established world in the works, if a recent Peele teaser is any indication.
Something that eagle-eyed fans have seen in the Nope The IMDb page is the fact that there is a mysterious character, who was eventually cut from the finished film, named Nobody, played by Michael Busch, that has spurred fan theories and speculation. Addressing the Nobody character, Peele told him The New York Times,
“The story of that character has not yet been told, that I can tell you. Which is another frustrating way of saying, I’m glad people are paying attention. I think you’ll get more answers about some of these things in the future. We haven’t finished telling all these stories.”
The comment certainly seems to imply that a Nope sequel could very well be on the way. And while one could interpret the first film as a stand-alone story, there are other hints that it may be a more open-ended story than it initially seemed, as We Got This Covered previously reported.
For example, Brandon Perea, who plays Angel in the film, mentioned in a recent interview with SyFy Wire that he convinced the filmmakers not to kill off his character as originally intended, even though a viewer might come to that conclusion by see it for the first time. Additionally, the person who helped design the creature for the film, John Dabiri, also hinted in a separate interview with Thrillist that the alien may have survived the events of the film, despite appearing to bite the dust by accidentally ingesting a balloon at the end .
All of these revelations certainly make us want to go back and see Nope again to see if there’s any hidden sequel bait we missed that would make even the most ironclad space stingray hungry for more.
