Actor arrested for drugs finally faces trial
One time Judgment hit the PC scene, it was inevitable that gamers would start poking around in the title’s source code, as the PC team is wont to do; For example, this new mod, which restores the voice and visual appearance of actor Pierre Taki, who was cut from the RPG shortly after its initial release.
Controversy arose in the spring of 2019, when the (then) 51-year-old actor was arrested for cocaine use. While no illicit substances were found in Taki’s home, the actor tested positive when samples were tested. Japan’s drug laws are among some of the strictest in the world, and the event prompted Sega to immediately halt sales of Judgment to remove Taki from his role as the Tojo Clan’s subsidiary captain, Kyohei Hamura. Judgment he would eventually return to the market, with Hamura sporting a fresh face and re-recorded voice.
Clearly, though, his likeness and vocal performance remained buried within the PlayStation edition’s source code, as modder Timo654 has successfully ported a similar PlayStation mod to now work with the new PC/Steam release. Pierre Taki’s model for Judgment can be accessed through the NexusMods website and is compatible with the popular Ryu Mod Manager trainer, which is used to modify titles within the Ryu ga Gotoku Serie.
As for Taki himself, the Tokyo District Court handed down a sentence of 18 months in prison for cocaine use. The sentence has a suspension period of three years. The actor has continued to work in film and television since his arrest.
