Kaguya-sama: Love is war is one of the funniest romantic comedy anime of the last decade, a fact proven by its immense popularity. At the core of its humor are the various “battles” between the quirky and eccentric characters that often escalate minor situations into climactic showdowns.
As expected, the force of Kaguya-samaThe humor of is based on the strength of the characters that are involved in each situation. The more absurd and eccentric the characters, the more ridiculous and bizarre the situation becomes. Here are the funniest characters of Kaguya-sama: Love is warranked by the amount of hilarity they bring to the table.
10 kei shirogane
Shirogane’s younger sister doesn’t appear as often, but she tends to make a good impression whenever she does. Although she openly pretends to find her brother annoying, she is genuinely a fan of Kaguya and wishes to become friends with her.
Much of Kei Shirogane’s appearances in the anime involve his uneasy relationship with his brother and father. While the two are hilarious on their own, Kei provides a straight man that highlights his ridiculous antics. While he may not be the funniest character, he is often the part of many funny jokes.
9 Nagisa Kashiwagi
While many of the stories in Kaguya-sama revolve around the members of the Shuchiin Student Council, there are occasionally some students outside of the Student Council that are introduced. Nagisa Kashiwagi was one of the first characters to appear who was not part of the Student Council, and she frequently appeared for relationship advice.
Many of Nagisa’s encounters with the Student Council involve her and her developing relationship with her boyfriend. While her intentions seem pure, she often annoys the members of the Student Council, who often have better things to do than listen to her stories.
8 Ai Hayasaka
Ai Hayasaka is Kaguya Shinomiya’s personal maid, although hardly anyone in school knows about it. A master at switching personas, Hayasaka can switch between a cold, stoic demeanor and a lively, vibrant personality in the blink of an eye.
While Hayasaka is experienced in a variety of occupations and subjects, she sometimes finds herself thrown into a situation that she can’t deal with (often due to Kaguya’s whims). Hayasaka doesn’t always get flustered, but when she does, it’s always because of a completely ridiculous situation.
7 Miko Iino
Miko Iino is the newest member of the Student Council, joining after an election to determine the next president. She is an overbearing fanatic about rules and morals, but the seriousness of hers can be endearing. She has mellowed out a bit since she joined the Student Council, but some things will never change.
Iino is often the source of many funny jokes, mostly related to strange misunderstandings with the rest of the Student Council. She shines brightest when she is with Ishigami, as their cat and dog relationship is often the source of many funny jokes.
6 kaguya shinomiya
Kaguya Shinomiya is one of the main characters in this series and thus appears in most of the various stories that make up the anime. Kaguya is normally presented as a very quiet and reserved character and the very image of a noble lady.
On the inside, Kaguya is very scheming, often engineering strange situations for Shirogane to confess to her. However, as her feelings for her grow throughout the series, Kaguya’s icy demeanor begins to melt away, causing her to become more overtly emotional and reminiscent.
5 miyuki shirogane
Miyuki Shirogane is the president of the Shuchiin Student Council and a generally serious and hard-working person. Initially, she doesn’t seem like the type to get involved in the kind of goofy shenanigans that crop up throughout the series.
However, Shirogane’s very nature is what really causes him to end up in many of these ridiculous situations, such as his various “training sessions” with Fujiwara. His fear of being looked down upon by Kaguya and his poor understanding of current trends are big jokes that make him a great comedic character.
4 maki shijo
Maki Shijo is the best friend of Nagisa Kashiwagi, who harbors an unrequited love for her boyfriend. This makes the relationship between the three of them very awkward, and unfortunately, Shijo often ends up being the short end of the stick.
While Shijo doesn’t appear very often in the series, whenever he does, the hilarity is usually not far behind. While there is a bit of sadness in his character, his attempts to deal with his unrequited love and his loneliness are fun to watch.
3 yu ishigami
Yu Ishigami is the introverted and sardonic treasurer of the Student Council. An otaku who loves playing video games and watching anime, Ishigami doesn’t usually fit in very well with his classmates at school.
While Ishigami is at the heart of many dramatic moments in Kaguya-sama, is also the center of many comedic moments. His combative relationships with Fujiwara and Iino make for some funny scenes, and his own negative personality brings a lot of humor even when they’re not around.
two Chika Fujiwara
The bubbly, game-loving secretary of the Student Council is one of the biggest sources of humor in the series. Whether it’s some weird game to liven up the student council or get in Shirogane’s way or Kaguya’s complex plans to make the other confess, Fujiwara has established himself as a massive wild card among the Student Council.
While Fujiwara initially seems like an impassable wall to Kaguya, she is not immune to being caught off guard, such as her many run-ins with Ishigami or her grueling “training sessions” with Shirogane. Regardless of the situation, Fujiwara is always a solid source of hilarity.
1 Shirogane’s father
The as-yet-unnamed patriarch of the Shirogane family makes very few appearances, but they’re all laugh-out-loud hilarious. A man who lost his company and now works various jobs to pay off his debt, Shirogane’s father nonetheless tries to be a reliable presence in the lives of his children.
While his intentions are good, the way Shirogane’s father does it is questionable at best. Whether it’s her misguided attempts to connect with his youth or his tendency to seem creepy even in the most innocuous moments, Shirogane’s father is a sight to behold.
