‘Lilo & Stitch’ Director Says Movie Showed ‘Sisterhood Over Romance’ Long Before ‘Frozen’

It seems like everyone still can’t let it go when it comes to Disney. Frozen. After all, the film was praised for showing that “true love” can be achieved through means other than romance.

However, not everyone is happy with Disney’s lucrative new property as lilo and stitch director Chris Sanders is upset by the praise Frozen He received.

In an interview with The New York TimesSanders wanted people to pay more attention to how lilo and stitch adapted the story of the brotherhood after noticing that people were praising Frozenn for something they did first.

“To be clear, I think ‘Frozen’ is great. But it was a little bit frustrating for me because people were like, ‘Finally, a non-romantic relationship with these two girls,’ and I was like, ‘We did it! That absolutely has been done before.”

lilo and stitch It came out in 2002, more than a decade before Frozen’s theatrical release in 2013. At some point in all of that, Lilo befriends an alien named Stitch, which created a challenge for both Nani and Lilo to prove that they can take care of each other.

Sanders commented on the story of the film, saying that fans were able to relate to the story as it is “grounded in reality” where people “can see themselves”.

lilo and stitch it did touch on real-world themes that young audience members could relate to: Nani, forced to become Lilo’s legal guardian after her parents are killed in a car accident, faces parenting difficulties. And a social worker always seems to catch Nani and Lilo at their worst…

When the movie came out, that’s what a lot of critics talked about,” he said. “Those moments that were grounded in reality in a way that people could see themselves, and it didn’t feel like they were cartoon characters.”
