news culture Loki Season 2: Would the Disney + series be linked to Doctor Strange 2?
Loki’s next season could tie into the latest Marvel Cinematic Universe film, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
One of writers of the film Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and the Loki series explained the connections between the two works via the Multiverseprojecting on the sequel to the Disney + series.
The author who worked on Loki and Doctor Strange 2
The first season of Loki could have had a huge bearing on the MCU films, since, according to several theories, the timestream split that takes place at the end of the season would coincide with the failed fate of Doctor Strange in Spider-Man No Way Home, which brings characters from other universes into Peter Parker’s. Beyond the theories and other fan ideas, author Michael Waldronwho served as head writer and executive producer on Season 1 of Loki and writer on Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, responded to DigitalSpy and Deadline on the Loki season 2 and its ties to Marvel’s latest movie.
Why Kang and Loki were absent from the film
At Deadline, Waldron has explained the absence of Kang the Conqueror, antagonist of Loki’s season 1 finale, in the Stephen Strange film. According to him and Sam Raimi, it was the perfect opportunity, now or never, to give the role of main antagonist of a film to Wanda. The Scarlet Witch was to be at the center of this film’s multiversal plot, and adding Kang in the film would have risked creating even more confusion. This would be all the more true with a part of the public who has not seen the Loki series, and therefore has never heard of Kang. Regarding the latter, he explains that the character will have a key role in season 2 of Loki (Some rumors also place Kang as an enemy of Scott Lang, Hank Pym and Hope van Dyne in the movie Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania). It’s for the same reason Loki’s character is not in Strange’s movie : Avoid overloading the plot.
Loki laid the groundwork for the Multiverse in Doctor Strange
At DigitalSpy, Michael Waldron also explains that his work on season 1 of Loki greatly helped him prepare the script for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. However, he sometimes felt like he was locked in the rules established by the series. But often the limitations are vectors of creativity.
We worked pretty hard on Loki to make the Multiverse as square as possible. But there were times when I was like, “Oh shit, I wish I hadn’t defined this so precisely.” I don’t know why I had to be so specific in my time travel series, about the rules of the multiverse.
But I was glad I came with institutional knowledge of the Multiverse and was able to get the Doctor Strange creative team on the same page as me. Because like with Loki, that’s the most important thing when you’re dealing with this kind of story. You all need to have a common language, otherwise it can get quite confusing.
Eventually, Spider-Man No Way Home and then Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness developed the MCU’s Multiverse. Where the Loki series focused first and foremost on the various timelines that create a multiverse, the films have developed the concept to the maximum with various universes and parallel dimensions.
Stephen Strange in Loki Season 2?
About the sequel, Waldron says nothing very specific, since as we know, Marvel is still doing everything to keep its future storylines a secret. Among the possible scenarios advanced by experts and fans about the season 2 of Loki, we often find the presence of Strange. Indeed, after the timestreams split at the end of the first season, Loki returns to the Tribunal of Anachronistic Variations. But this one is very different: the Time Keepers statues have been replaced with a Kang statue, no one remembers who Loki is, not even his friend Mobius, etc… In other words, Loki is in another dimension of the Multiverse, with a different past. As Strange traveled the Multiverse in his film, and we imagine that other versions of Strange wander there too, many imagine that we will see the Sorcerer Supreme meeting Loki. A moment which, if it happens, risks seeing the two characters quite confused!
