Madden 23 is out now worldwide, and as with previous games, players can get pretty creative with building each team’s roster. This is because users have the ability to create and use custom lists that can be created by users themselves or members of the community. So how do you do this in Madden NFL 23? We’ll see.
How to create custom Madden 23 rosters
To create a custom roster, select the NFL logo at the bottom right of the home screen. Then select the ‘Edit Lists’ option. From here you can select the ‘Manage Players’ tab. By doing that, you can edit players as you like, from names, numbers, and player ratings. You can also add existing free agents to new teams by following the same steps as before, but selecting the ‘Sign Free Agents’ option instead of ‘Manage Players’. To exchange players, select the ‘Exchange Players’ tab.
If you want to create players in Madden 23, you’ll need to go through a few different steps. Go back to the home screen and select the NFL logo again. Instead of ‘Edit Lists’, you’ll want to choose the ‘Creation Center’ option. Here you will be able to create a custom player from scratch. Users can edit all aspects of the player, including ratings, names, and even the team the custom player will belong to in their game.

Once you’ve done what you need to do, be sure to save your lists. To ensure your roster is saved, go to ‘Share and Manage Files’ by selecting the Roster & Playbooks tab from the main menu and then ‘Save Files’. Navigate to the Roster section with LB/RB or L1/R1 then save the roster.
How to use custom lists
If you want to use the roster you have created in Madden NFL 23, go back to the ‘Share and Manage Files’ option. Select ‘Load and delete files’ and scroll back to Lists. Choose the list you want to load with A/X, and that’s it.
Now, if you want to avoid all the hard work and use a list created by the Madden community, go to ‘Download Community Files’ instead of ‘Upload and Delete Files’. You’ll find a lot of community-created content here, including playbooks, class drafts, and even custom rosters. Select a list you want to use, download it, and then save it as you would any other custom list.

Lastly, let’s go over what you need to do to use these roster files for franchise mode. Create a new league and then decide whether to save it online or offline. However, make sure you select the ‘Use active list’ function and load the custom list file beforehand.
