Thor: love and thunder was not as well received as its acclaimed predecessor, despite Taika Waititi’s return to the director’s chair. However, a recent thread on Reddit reveals that there was a lot of love for one particular aspect of the film, which is the return of Natalie Portman as jane foster and see her meet again Thor for the first time since 2013 Thor: The Dark World.
The thread’s author, u/leonstar007, brought up the relationship as a point of contention around his mixed feelings about it.
While there was some division in opinion, with some commentators seeing Jane’s return as a bit of a shoe-in getaway, the comments and upvotes seemed to tip the scales in favor of Jane returning to the scene, even if it was just for a movie
Another commenter noted that Jane’s eventual return helped Thor work some things out, given that the character has been quite downtrodden after the mental and physical beating the character took during the events of Phase Three, with Hela decimating their home and getting one. -outclassed by Thanos at the cost of half the universe.
Those who sent Jane and Thor also loved running flashbacks to fill the noticeable gap between Jane’s appearances in the MCU, which Thor only spontaneously mentioned less than a handful of times to this point. All fans really knew was that they broke up, and that was it, so it was lovely to see the couple’s ups and downs.
However, it wasn’t all praise and praise for Portman’s return, particularly with some expressed disappointment at the opportunity presented by the source material only for Jane to arrive at the gates of Valhalla in the post-credits scene. For others, it was too little and too late between appearances for Jane to return out of nowhere, with a claim that Portman lacks the larger-than-life screen presence to meet the requirements of a hero in the MCU. .
But overall, despite the film’s split, Thor and Jane was a highlight for most fans. Even though Jane’s cancer arc may have been a missed opportunity to touch fans’ hearts in a way the MCU has never done before, rather than be undermined by space goat humor, fans were happy to see the lovesick duo reunite.
As we await the inevitable return of Thor, fans have been wondering where Thunderbolt ended up after the events of Thor: love and thunder and how it might play a role in the future.
