People love classic supernatural comedy. Ghostbustersthey arguably have an even deeper affection for Brendan Fraser’s beloved romp The Mummyand the Marvel Cinematic Universe is the most popular franchise in modern Hollywood, so it’s no surprise that a combination of all three saw moon knight earn massive praise from critics, fans, and MCU newcomers alike.
It should be noted that it’s not us making the comparison, but head writer/executive producer Jeremy Slater, who revealed to ComicBook that combining elements of three A-grade properties was a key part of his pitch to Marvel Studios when he was trying to convincing the higher-ups he was the right man for the job.
“I came back with a tone that suited the things that I love and grew up with, which is in search of the lost arkhis GhostbustersIt’s the Amblin movies, it’s the Brendan Fraser Mummy movie. They are things like that. There was a lot of DNA to the tone of, ‘Let’s take the best, some of the best footage and ideas from Jeff Lemire’s career, but let’s put it together with this big, crazy, globetrotting, Indiana Jones-esque adventure, because that’s something I don’t know. has done before in the MCU.”
Slater’s tone was evidently a treat, and you can certainly feel several of those aforementioned influences seeping out of him. moon knighteven though the supernatural streaming exclusive is very much its own, insofar as it barely ties into the broader MCU.
