NBA 2K23 Badges: All New, Removed, and Modded Badges in This Year’s Game

NBA 2K23 is almost here, and that means we have a new badge system. While we can’t provide our full list of NBA 2K23 badge tiers yet – we need to play the game for that – we already know the full list of new badges, as well as which ones were removed or combined into pre-existing badges. in this year’s game. NBA 2K23 features a drastically revised badge system, which breaks badges into tiers and allows for some additional badge slots for all players. The Visual Concepts team also consolidated or completely removed some badges based on telemetry data that helped identify which badges were getting used a lot and which ones really weren’t.

In this NBA 2K23 Badges Guide, we will share the full list of new badges and note how some have changed and which ones will be missing when the game launches on September 8. Over time, we’ll update this guide to reflect the full list of badges and tier them to help you build your own virtual athlete.

NBA 2K23 Badge List

Perhaps more than any other sports sim, the customizable MyPlayer system in NBA 2K is truly the annual draw, rather than MyTeam or season-long modes. With custom players come badges, which grant abilities in different areas of a player’s game, such as shooting and defense. This year’s game, in the new-gen versions only, reimagines the badge system you may be used to into a three-tier system, with tier 1 badges costing the least but also providing the smallest boosts. From there, each level becomes more powerful and expensive. Visual Concepts says that the idea behind this new system “is that you’ll need to equip a certain number of badges at lower levels before you can equip badges at higher ones.”

This is intended to make players make more difficult choices when deciding which badges to equip, bringing more balance to game modes where many custom players interact together, such as in the game’s social hub, The City.

Along with the levels, there are new “basic” badge slots that allow you to place a badge for each skill area: finishing, shooting, playmaking, and defending/rebounding. Primary Badges do not count towards overall Badge Points, but can only be placed in a Primary Badge slot once the related challenge is completed.

With that in mind, here’s the full list of 20 new Badges, Modded Badges, and 12 Badges that were removed entirely for 2K23.

Eliminated: Defensive Leader

Although a skilled NBA 2K player could reasonably deduce the full list of badges in 2K23 based on what is missing from this list that does not have been declared eliminated after last year’s game, we’ve refrained from building such a roster for now in case the team hasn’t reached a final tally yet. There may be more changes to come, but for now, this is all we’ve learned from our time chatting with the 2K team. As soon as we can share the full list you’ll find when the game launches on September 8, you’ll see it all here, so bookmark this page as we prepare for the announcement.
