Netflix has released the first trailer for They Cloned Tyrone, an upcoming sci-fi comedy directed by Juel Taylor in his feature directorial debut. The film will arrive on Netflix on December 30.
The film’s synopsis reads as follows: “A series of hair-raising events pushes an unlikely trio on the trail of a nefarious government conspiracy in this pulpy and mysterious caper.” Based on the trailer, which is primarily the aforementioned unlikely trio riding in an elevator, the three united forces are Jamie Foxx (Spider-Man: No Way Home) as Slick Charles, John Boyega (Star Wars: Episode VII – The Awakening of the Force) as Fontraine, and Teyonah Parris (WandaVision) as Yo-Yo. Take a look at the trailer below. But the conspiracy that they are investigating in the film, at least according to the trailer below, remains a mystery.
Boyega, who will also reunite with writer-director Joe Cornish on Attack the Block 2, a sequel to the film that possibly launched their 2011 careers, said on a recent Jimmy Kimmel Live! Appearance that he does movies like They Cloned Tyrone due to pressure from his father to pursue less purely artistic and emotional roles. Boyega told Kimmel, “My dad just wants me to jump off buildings. In fact, he asked me why my career isn’t like Bruce Willis… He said, ‘No, no, jump off a building and you’re a star”. .'”
They Cloned Tyrone comes from a script by Taylor and Tony Rettenmaier (Space Jam: A New Legacy).
