News hardware New MacBook Air with M2 chip: pre-orders are open, find out the prices
Apple unveiled its new MacBook Air with M2 chip at WWDC 2022 in early June, and the star of the evening is finally available for pre-order. If you can’t take it anymore and want to be sure of a model as soon as it is released, this is where it happens.
Pre-orders for the M2 are now
When Apple introduced the revamped MacBook Air, the brand told us July was the launch date for pre-orders. Without more information, we had to be patient before getting more details.
But finished languishing, pre-orders have just started launched and here is the calendar, it’s very simple:
- The MacBook Air pre-order has already started as you read these lines: July 8 at 2 p.m. In view of the noise made by this new machine, it is quite possible that delivery times will lengthen as orders are placed.
- The first parcels arrive at customers on July 15 from 8 a.m. Here is the link to equip yourself in advance for the start of the school year.

The MacBook Air with M2 chip: almost everything changes
The 2022 MacBook Air is here and it brings everything we’ve been waiting for since the success of its predecessor. The design is completely revised. Gone is the chassis which is refined from one end to the other, the architecture takes on the shape of the 14 and 16 inch MacBook Pros a little, but much thinner. 1.13 cm is (very) little and it’s a pleasure if you are often on the move.
This may be what will harm the Mac. The 13-inch Macbook Pro M2 was released a few days ago and the first tests show potential issues with the device heating up during very intense tasks. Nothing generalized for the moment but an update could perhaps fix the glitches.
In addition to this little quack, there is a completely revised screen, with thinner borders which increase the screen from 13.3 to 13.6 inches. It’s not huge but it’s still there. In contrast, what makes all the difference is the new webcam that finally goes to 1080p resolution. It supports Center Stage technology, which uses the ultra wide-angle format to focus on the subject and track it if it moves.
But what makes the power of the beast is the M2 chip, the second generation of Apple’s in-house processors which have been revolutionizing the market for two years. Tim Cook has finally gotten rid of Intel’s twists and turns to grow the Mac on its own. Apple masters everything, from processor to hardware to software, synonymous with perfect optimization.
Apple’s optimization gives us tenfold power for energy consumption so low that it makes the Windows community pale.

It’s also the return of the MagSafe charging port, not present on a MacBook Air for ages. And yet, we no longer count the number of Macs saved by the magnetic connection of the charger which comes off when we get our feet caught in it. It makes you wonder what went through Apple’s head to have abandoned it.
We end with what annoys and which is probably the only real flaw of the new MacBook Air M2: the price. We start at €1499 for the model with 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage, where the previous Air started at €300 less. We know, it hurts and that’s surely what will stop a lot of students from switching to the latest model.

What are the different types of MacBooks?
In 2022, the range begins with the MacBook Air M1 released in 2020 and the MacBook Air M2 released in July 2022. Next comes the 13-inch MacBook Pro with M2 chip with its Touch Bar. Finally, for users with more advanced needs, Apple offers the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro, equipped with the powerful M1 Pro and M1 Max chips.
What are M1 and M2 chips?
These are chips made by Apple to equip their computers and tablets. The ARM architecture combines the CPU and the GPU into a single element to allow better optimization and low power consumption. With the abandonment of Intel processors and the transition to in-house chips, Apple now masters the hardware, chips and software, without depending on third-party players.
What are the differences between a Mac and a PC?
In general, a Mac remains simpler and clearer to use for those who do not need somewhat obscure software that only works on Windows. The game is not the main target of Aplpe, which focuses on the quality of materials such as the chassis or the absolutely unbeatable trackpad. Many appreciate the integration of the Mac into the brand’s ecosystem to synchronize data with an iPhone. Apple computers hold their value longer over time.
