Horror-focused streaming service Shudder has announced a new entry in the V/H/S series, V/H/S/99.
The sequel will stream exclusively on Shudder on October 20 in North America, the UK, Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand. This time, the anthology series will feature Maggie Levin (Into The Dark: My Valentine), Johannes Roberts (47 Meters Down, Resident Evil: Welcome To Raccoon City), Flying Lotus (Kuso), Tyler MacIntyre (Tragedy Girls), and Joseph & Vanessa Winter (Deadstream) as project directors.
“V/H/S/94 set a new standard for what is already a fantastic film franchise, featuring some of the best horror anthology segments in recent memory by an incredible lineup of filmmakers,” said Craig Engler, general manager. of Shuder. Engler also noted that this would be the “biggest and best” entry in the series.
Producer Josh Goldbloom discussed how in the late ’90s DVD overtook VHS as the preferred medium, The Blair Witch Project proved incredibly popular, and Y2K created a strong sense of “apocalyptic horror.”
The V/H/S series began in 2012, with each film essentially consisting of numerous found footage shorts, all from different directors, including Adam Wingard (You’re Next), Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett (Ready or Not) and Gregg Hale (The Blair Witch Project).
Plot details for V/H/S/99 have yet to be announced, though according to Goldbloom’s comments, it will almost certainly revolve around the general feelings that many experienced at the turn of the millennium.
