news tip Overwatch 2: a mandatory connection to your mobile number! How it works ?
The next installment in the Overwatch series is not badly awaited by some players who are waiting for a breath of fresh air on the license. But by searching the game files a bit, some players have discovered that to be able to enjoy it you will have to link your Battle Net account to a mobile phone number.
While browsing the Battle Net site, players saw a small text below elements related to Overwatch 2 and among the elements required to be able to play it, it was indicated that you were bound to have to link your Battle Net account to a mobile number.
For that, nothing very complicated in itself. Indeed, you just have to go to your account and make this pairing. We can even say that some of the players have surely already done so via the two-factor authentication which protects your account.
It is however important to note only one account can be linked to a mobile number. Therefore, if you want to have a second account, you will logically need a second mobile number if you want to have access to Overwatch 2.
What idea behind this restriction?
One could then wonder why such a measure was put in place and there may be several explanations for this. The first is of course to further secure the accounts by somehow making two-factor authentication mandatory.
But the second reason could be the smurfs. Indeed, as in any competitive game, well-placed players sometimes use other lower-ranked accounts called smurf and this can ruin the gaming experience, especially for the weakest players.
Therefore, associate a mobile number with his Overwatch account, it could be a way to limit these smurfs. This rule being simple to circumvent it, it will not delete them definitively, but it could contribute to seeing their number decrease.
