Overwatch 2’s roster of heroes has continued to expand throughout Blizzard’s two OW2 betas, but we won’t be seeing any new faces in the fray before launch as beta testing has officially come to an end.
As we draw ever closer to the long-awaited release of Overwatch 2, players have been able to get a taste of the fearsome Junker Queen, as well as DPS powerhouse Sojourn. While several different hints have been released about a new fox support hero in recent weeks, it looks like we’ll have to wait until the game goes live to be able to play as them. Blizzard has confirmed that there will be no more beta testing of Overwatch 2 before launch, instead focusing on other things to prepare for the big day.
Overwatch business lead and Blizzard VP Jon Spector was quick to shut down rumors of a third beta on Twitter. On a 4th of August cheep, writes: “Today marks only two months since the release of Overwatch 2! We know players are eager to dive in and we’ve seen questions about the possibility of a third public beta.
“While we will continue to test OW2 daily internally, we are No planning any further public Beta testing. With all the valuable feedback we receive from our alpha and two public beta tests, we will focus our efforts on releasing the best possible game on October 4.”
While this news may disappoint some, the silver lining is that Blizzard makes sure the game is released in the best possible condition. Sure, it means we’ll have to wait to get a taste of this elusive fox hero (Main Support, I feel your pain), but it adds to the excitement, right?
The Overwatch 2 release date is currently set for October 4 after a series of substantial delays. As we inch ever closer to the next installment in Blizzard’s iconic FPS saga, be sure to check out our Overwatch 2 tier list to help you master.
