Game News Persona 5 Royal: the cult title recalls the end of its PS4 exclusive with a new video!
Originally released on PS3 before being ported to PS4 and then enriched in a Royal version in 2019, Persona 5 Royal will very soon leave its PlayStation exclusive status. A very long-standing request from players, who are waiting to discover the adventures of Phantom Thieves on new media.
Persona 5: a now cult game
Persona 5 Royal is the latest installment in the spin-off series by Shin Megami Tensei, published by Atlus. First game of the license to obtain French subtitles and menusthe J-RPG with a strong visual novel component and a long lifespan greatly impressed the public, to the point of eclipsing the original series. Since the first version of the game was released in 2016, Persona 5 has sold nearly 5 million units. including nearly 2 million Persona 5 Royal.
Joker, the main character of the game, is even part of the Super Smash Bros. roster. Ultimate, while a muso/action-RPG oriented sequel to Persona 5 (the base game), was released on Switch, PC, and PS4 as Persona 5 Strikers. With its scenario, its game mechanics and its cult soundtrack, Persona 5 (and its Royal version) has been able to expand the public of the license.
Xbox, PC and Nintendo Switch ports finally announced
As a result, many players have been pushing for the port of the game to PC and other media for years, especially after the release of Persona 4: Golden on PC and that of Strikers on Switch. It’s finally during the Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase last June that Atlus responded to this expectation by announcing that Persona 3 Portable, Persona 4 Golden and Persona 5 Royal were going to be released on Xbox One and Xbox Series and integrate as soon as they leave the Game Pass. In the minutes that followed, it was discovered that the games will also be released on PS5 and PS4.
Nintendo Switch gamers weren’t disappointed for very long, as Atlus simply expected a Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase to unveil Switch versions of games. Persona 3 Portable and Persona 4 Golden have yet to be dated, but Persona 5 Royal will be released everywhere on October 21accompanied by 45 DLCs released to date. Unfortunately, PS4 players have learned that no upgrade free would be offered, forcing them to go back to checkout.
A new trailer to wait
While waiting to be able to get our hands on the game through other media, we were entitled to brand new trailer, published by Atlus on its Japanese YouTube channel. The opportunity to remind us that Joker, and his companions, with the exception of Morgana, are Japanese high school students exploring the psyche of ill-intentioned people to save the world from destruction.
Endowed with personas, entities revealing their true nature as well as their powersthey will have to traverse the mental palaces of their targets, located in a parallel dimension, to prevent the catastrophe, and to push their adversaries to publicly admit their faults.
To succeed, they create the Phantom Thieves group, which will quickly gain popularity. As with any such story, the band has its fans, but also many detractorswho do not accept that people can act freely without respecting the law.
